Continuing the service expansion at Gentronix, we are pleased to announce our laboratory’s establishment and certified proficiency for conducting the OECD 431 reconstructed human epidermis skin corrosion test using the EpiDerm™ model. Our proficiency exercise generated the corrected prediction of the corrosive potential and the correct assignment of the chemicals into sub-classes of corrosiveness (i.e. 1A vs 1B/C) as defined in the OECD 431 guideline. These services are all delivered in GLP laboratories at Alderley Park using non-animal methodologies.
The addition of the skin corrosion test complements our existing skin toxicology service portfolio of in vitro skin irritation and in vitro skin sensitisation tests, enabling chemical risk assessments to be performed. Our Skin irritation Study Director has a wealth of experience in corrosion and irritation testing, gained through positions with contract research organisations working in the household product, cosmetics, agrichemical and flavours & fragrances testing space.
This full complement of dermal toxicity studies available at Gentronix allows our expert team to support the safety assessment of toxicological effects of our clients’ chemicals/products where exposure leads to contact with the skin’s surface. Use of the OECD 431 skin corrosion test, in combination with our OECD 439 skin irritation and OECD 442C, 442D and 442E sensitisations assays, enables investigation into potential skin toxicology effects and how such findings may have cross-over potential to act as irritants & skin sensitisation agents.
