We are searching for a motivated, adaptable and diligent Finance Assistant to join our Team at Gentronix. This is an interesting and varied role working in our innovative and fast-growing Contract Research Organisation (CRO).

About us

Gentronix is located at Alderley Park in the north-west UK. We are committed to helping our clients develop safer medicines and chemicals, using innovative screening platforms as well as GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) regulatory tests to detect hazards, to understand mode-of-action, and help manage risk.

Comprising of over 30 toxicologists with a range of experiences from within the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and CRO industries, our team has extensive expertise in the fields of genetic and skin toxicology. Our ambition is to become the leading provider of predictive and preclinical toxicology products and services across a variety of industries.

The role

This is a hands-on and varied role with exposure to all areas of finance in a small team supporting a fast-growing SME organisation. Working closely with the Financial Controller and the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will have a key role in providing high quality financial support, they will achieve this by:

  • Diligently handling customer invoicing via multiple platforms based on achieved service milestones and related accounting activity (receipt allocations, WIP clearance etc.)
  • Managing credit control activities, including setting limits, chasing debts, and accurately applying cash to accounts
  • Providing comprehensive Accounts Payable support, including loading payments, maintaining supplier master data, processing purchase invoices, coding to General Ledger and matching to Purchase Ledger
  • Conducting reconciliation of supplier statements to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Handling bank payments and receipts, along with meticulous bank reconciliations, to maintain financial integrity.
  • Supporting Payroll processes and deputizing for the Financial Controller where needed.
  • Supporting the Management Account preparation, including managing prepayments and accruals, for accurate financial reporting
  • Assisting with VAT returns to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Efficiently processing credit card transactions and travel expenses to streamline financial operations.
  • Contributing insights for Finance policy and procedure development, as well as aiding in their implementation to enhance control measures.
  • Providing valuable input into the selection, design, and implementation of Finance systems to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.

About you

To join us as our Finance Assistant, you will need:

  • Experience of working in a finance or business administration role
  • High integrity and honesty
  • Excellent organisational skills and an ability to multitask within a fast-paced organisation
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving skills together with a great attention for detail
  • Good computer literacy with experience of Sage 50 or an Enterprise Resource Planning accounting system and MS Office programmes (Excel, Word)
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional, confident and ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • AAT qualification (part qualified considered with study support)
  • Highly numerate and literate
  • Hunger to learn and develop.
  • Comfortable with new processes and changing processes.
