Your role
Are you a passionate and skilled people leader with a talent for inspiring teams and driving scientific excellence?
We’re looking for a dynamic individual to oversee and co-ordinate the day-to-day activities within our ambitious and multifaceted in-vivo team. You’ll collaborate closely with our Head of Genetic Toxicology, Study Directors, and Principal Investigators to further develop a capable and skilled team. As a key leader, you’ll oversee lab operations, manage project timelines, and provide hands-on mentorship to help your team grow and thrive.
Specifically, you will:
- Demonstrate leadership and team management for the in-vivo team, providing training, mentorship and driving team performance and career development.
- To work closely with the Study Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) and the Head of Genetic Toxicology to ensure efficient operation of all aspects of the regulatory in-vivo assays at Gentronix
- To manage the schedule for in-vivo studies including post-life laboratory tasks, by using effective project management and communication skills to ensure that studies run efficiently and to required timelines.
- To oversee effective team meetings, ensuring collaboration and knowledge sharing to maximise effectiveness of the team and growth in knowledge and skills
- To support the Head of Genetic Toxicology in collating and monitoring laboratory capacity figures and forecasts and playing a pivotal role in recruitment and future growth of the in-vivo group
- To perform laboratory procedures when required and to personally comply with, and ensure all work conducted in the in-vivo assays complies with, the principles of GLP, regulatory guidelines, study plans and standard operating procedures at all times; ensure any deviations from these are communicated to the Study Director / Principal Investigator as soon as possible.
- To accurately collect and record raw data contemporaneously in accordance with GLP principles and to take responsibility for the quality of the data generated.
- To ensure high standards of quality control are employed, and all laboratory records are maintained.
- To perform any work undertaken in accordance with health and safety requirements and to ensure the laboratory always operates in compliance with health and safety requirements.
- To be available for external audits or inspections by regulatory agencies when required .
- To assist with validation of computerised systems, as required.
- Any other reasonable management request
Requirements
To join us as a Scientist, you will need:
- Experience of working at a senior level in a life sciences laboratory environment and a life sciences degree or higher qualification
- A minimum of 3 years line management experience of laboratory personnel, with a good track record in team performance management, development and mentoring
- The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the laboratory-based elements of in-vivo studies, and specifically the in-vivo micronucleus, TGR assays or in-vivo comet assay. This is preferable but not absolutely essential as training will be provided.
- Proven ability to apply advanced genetic toxicology methods and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Good knowledge and experience of the principles of GLP.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing projects and mentoring junior scientists.
- Excellent leadership and people skills and a strong team player.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- To be IT literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
